They took turns at watch even when they were in relatively safe lands, as much from habit as to keep monsters at bay. It was a minor inconvenience with four of them; nobody complained, least of all Angelo.
He had studied Jessica's sleeping form by firelight and starlight, seen her skin kissed by the silver light of the full moon and the soft gold of dawn. He had memorized the curves of her body, the delicate features of her face, the rhythm of her breathing.
He wondered if he could ever dare to tell her the joy she brought him.
