In some ways, nothing has changed since their father's death. They protect each other as they always have, earn their way with Nara telling fortunes, Mara dancing, her hips making promises she has no intention of keeping.
In other ways, everything has changed. Now when Mara returns to their room after an evening of performing, skin gleaming with sweat rather than scented oils, Nara joins her in the bath, curls against her, touches and kisses until exhaustion falls away. They share a bed, wrapped around each other in body and spirit, and sleep, each woman's taste on her sister's tongue.
